Photoseries “Paper Love” commissioned by Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA) will be on show at its Acedemie voor Lichmelijke Opvoeding (ALO) building at Dr. Meurerlaana 8 in Amsterdam-Osdorp. The opening of the exhibition (10 large format photographs 75x100 and 100x126 printed on dibond) will take place on November 24th at 4 p.m. with a solo live performance.
"Paper Love" is a concept for the performance piece by Inga Cholmogorova, performed on various locations solo or in collaboration with other artists/ dancers, using paper to create the environment and costumes.
This is a site-responsive work, which originated on the location in Mechelen at the abandoned space of the premises of a former clothes manufacturer’s Vedea in 2009. The history of the place where once clothes were produced and sold as well as remaining wallpaper from the past was an inspiration to make costumes out of paper to echo the delicate issues addressed by the work. “Paper Love” explores fragility and vulnerable nature of human relations, based on emotions and expectations, The work accentuates the fleeting and ever-changing nature of things.
As a result of the first performance by Inga Cholmogorova together with Sarah Benn (July 2009), a series of 10 photographs are presented to create a framework for the story to trigger the imagination of the viewer. Two characters resembling those of Colombine and Pierrot of Commedia dell’arte * were interacting in between themselves and the given space while photographs were taken on location with assistance of Peter Haesendonck.
The second edition of “Paper Love” was an environment created out of paper together with Anthony Schrag during the residency at the Akkigalleria (September 2011) in Finland, where a piece choreographed by Inga Cholmogorova was performed together with Lotta Roukala and Noora Pasanen.
